Update: Ginny’s mom, Michele Lloyd tells me it was wonderful, “There was an amazing turnout!! Ginny felt good enough to stay til 9 p.m. Perfect! The weather had me worried, but it didn’t stop anyone.”

That is certainly not surprising – this is the City of Good Neighbors. Please continue to help Ginny – by donating to her fundraising page (at the bottom of this story)

If you’ve ever thought to yourself – life isn’t fair – think about this. Ginny Fagard is 14 and she is battling brain cancer.

She already beat leukemia ten years ago – yet, now – she’s dealt this hand. Again. And she’s fighting.

She’s has multiple brain surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and way too many procedures to name. And she’s fighting.

That is not fair.

She’s a sweet girl who always seems to be smiling. While she’s fighting. It’s remarkable, really. The human spirit. It’s something that you can’t explain. You can’t understand sometimes, either.

The thing is – Ginny can’t beat this alone. She just can’t. She needs prayers. And support. She needs life-saving medicine. On Saturday, January 28 – a benefit will be held to help Ginny’s family- financially. It is an unimaginable burden.

The event is the 10th Annual WNY International Rabbit Derby, Frank Privitere memorial. Each year, they pick a new cause. This year, it’s Ginny.

Ginny’s mom, Michele Lloyd told me this support means the world, “Having everyone coming together for Ginny, not only helps to pay for medication to help save her life, make her pain better and help her sleep, but it also gives this whole journey a purpose.. it means a lot to see so many strangers come together because of my daughter! It’s so heart warming to know that my daughter is loved by so many.”

She truly is. Just take a moment to read more about Ginny and her fight. And look at the pictures on her Facebook page. A smiling, beautiful teenager. Michele says her daughter is beyond amazing, “Of all the things you hope your child can accomplish in life, she has gone above and beyond! She is a hero in my eyes and I want to share her with the world, so everyone can see how proud I am to be her mother.”

The apple does not fall far.

Here is the information on the benefit and basket raffle.

Where: Thomas E Tehan Post, 2075 Electric Avenue, Blasdell

When: Jan 28 – from 4-6 p.m.

Cost: $25 to get in the derby, dinner is included.  Free admission

You’ll find a cash bar, huge basket raffle and more. It is a family-friendly event. If you can make it, great. If not, please consider making a donation to help Ginny and her family. And please share her story.
