Alright folks – it’s time to celebrate some pretty smart kids. Get this – 8 Grand Island High School Students have qualified for DECA Nationals which will be held in California – April 25-30. Yes, in just a few weeks!

DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) is a club that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

So these eight kids are headed to Anaheim, California – which – is a huge accomplishment! But, they need a bit of help raising the funds needed for travel expenses, hotel, food, and DECA registration. (around $2500 per student)

They’ll be holding three fundraisers. One is a pancake breakfast this Sunday(April 9) at Applebees, 1608 Military Road in Niagara Falls. Tickets are just $8 and are available by calling Barb at 870-0019. You can also visit her facebook page for more info on the other fundraisers, including basket and silent auctions.

Barb is one of the proud parents. Her daughter, Sarah is one of the students headed to California. Barb says the experience so far has been priceless, “Deca has given Sarah such opportunities to learn how to speak to people, to be involved in business and to learn about business especially the hospitality industry. Sarah is currently the DECA regional representative for Western New York from Grand Island. She’s has been able to meet amazing business people from all of New York State, and learn about their businesses. Sarah is going to college next year to study International business and Communication. DECA will carry her into her future as she she will learn many things at DECA Nationals and meet many new people.”

Way to go kids!! Keep us posted on your success – we will be rooting for you!
