In August, the Buffalo Zoo announced that their elephants, Jothi and Surapa, would be relocating to the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. Now, the time has come for the beloved duo to head to their new home.

Caretakers at the zoo have spent weeks carefully planning every minute of their trip, collaborating with the folks at the Audubon Zoo and other experts from zoos and aquariums around the country. They feel they are ready.

Officials with the zoo say the time is approaching to say goodbye to the elephants. They’re inviting everyone to a special farewell event on Saturday, October 27th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can view Jothi and Surapa on exhibit, hear a zoo keeper talk, sign a farewell card and make a donation to elephant conservation efforts.

If you can’t make it, folks from the zoo encourage you to stop by and say farewell soon.

They haven’t given an exact date, but it is clear that the time is near.

Thanks for the memories – Jothi and Surapa! Safe travels. xo
