New businesses are popping up all over Buffalo – that includes the fairly new Queen City Escape room which promises to test your detective skills.

Boy, oh boy. If you’re looking for something fun to do – you have to check out Queen City Escape Room. Dominic Luongo said after visiting others around the state, he just had to open one in Buffalo. So, about a year ago, they did it.

You never know what you might find in one of the ‘escape rooms’ – like this cool barrel.

Escape Rooms are not for the faint of heart, it takes team work, critical thinking and the ability to ask for help. At Queen City Escape, each room has a different theme, different puzzles – and a different story line. Dom says if you think they’re tough to get out of, making them is even more difficult. “Each room takes about 2 or 3 months to design.” From concept to construction, the work is thorough and can get very complicated.

You’re basically locked in a room with a group of people. You’re given a puzzle to solve. It’s your job to find the clues that are basically hidden right in front of you, then work to solve the puzzle. Teamwork is key – bounce ideas off of one another. You can also ask the game-master for help. They’ll give you a clue that will help if you’re stuck.

To be honest, getting out of the rooms is a lot like getting through life – work as a team, rely on others, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

It’s all in good fun and you will be incredibly proud of your team if you can escape.

They are located in Buffalo’s Historic First Ward at 225 Louisiana Street (entrance on O’Connell) They have 3 rooms to pick from which hold up to ten people at a time. You can expect to spend around 90 minutes in each room – unless you are a super-sleuth!

Hours: Mon-Wed: 4-8 p.m.; Thurs-Sunday: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Prices: $25; 12 & under: $18
