Friends of Buffalo Police Officer Joseph Acquino are planning a rally to support the officer, who was shot in the line of duty on Sunday, May 7th. Officer Acquino was injured while on duty trying to apprehend a man in the Black Rock section of Buffalo (SEE ORIGINAL STORY HERE).  Officer Acquino underwent surgery, and is expected to make a full recovery.

I talked with Ben Bell, a friend of Acquino, who is helping with the benefit. He tells me he felt awful when he first heard about the incident and just knew he had to do something, “Joe and I have been friends for a decade now and I thought it would be nice for him to see how much the community supports him and is rallying behind him.” And it seems they already are, with hundreds already planning on attending the event, according to the Facebook page. Many others offering baskets, and other items for donation.

Bell describes Officer Acquino as an amazing human being who always puts his friends and family first, and an even better cop. Bell says his friend is” recovering pretty good.”

They’re looking now for help from the community. If you’d like to donate baskets or gift cards, you can contact the organizers on the Facebook event page.

WHEN: Friday, June 16th from 7-10 p. m.

WHERE: Rusty Buffalo, 270 Center Road, West Seneca

COST: $25 open bar (well drinks, domestic draft, pop, juice) and food!
