Oh, we just love this.

Let me explain.

On March 11th at 12:43 p.m., Grand Island Firefighters responded to an EMS call to care for an 83-year-old woman. The woman, who was ultimately taken to the hospital in an ambulance, told firefighters that she could no longer care for her dog. She surrendered him to the dog control officer.

Grand Island Firefighters had to care for the dog for just a few hours until the town’s dog control officer arrived.

Well, that’s all it took.

During that time, Tommy Shanor, one of the firefighters, fell in love with the dog. So, Tommy asked his wife if they could keep him – and she said YES!!!! They adopted the old boy and now he has his forever home. Tommy tells me it was basically love at first sight, “His name is Czar and I’ve always a dog and a German Shepard at that, and everything just lined up perfectly. My wife, Nicole was a huge part in this and completely on board with the whole situation.”

So, Czar went home with Tommy and Nicole, “We were both thrilled that we could help him out and welcome him to our family and also help out the owner at the same time. He’s doing very good adjusting and very energetic to say the least. He is such a good boy and we are both still completely in awe and still can’t believe it worked out the way it did.”

Way to go Firefighter Shanor – we hope you, Nicole, and your new best friend, live happily ever after.

Now that is a life-changing call!
