Officials with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the worst on Sunday – that a hiker had died following a fall at Zoar Valley. Conor Long was just 20-years-old but doing, friends say, what he loved to do.

Long fell 70 feet into a gorge on Sunday afternoon while hiking with friends.

A fundraising page was setup to help pay the funeral expenses for the Hamburg man and it says in part, “Conor Long was a true stand up guy. He was never in a bad mood, and he was always kind. He always did what he could to give back to his community whether it was through volunteering, or just saying hello to a stranger-so it only seems right that we as a community return the favor to his family and friends.”

The funds, according to the page, will help pay for Long’s funeral.
